It’s Dubai calling for Kaho Na... Pyaar Hai star who starts filming next month in the UAE
The footprints left behind by Shah Rukh Khan as he filmed his Bollywood dance drama Happy New Year in Dubai have barely faded and we hear that the city is gearing up to play host to another Bollywood production next month.
Come mid-November, Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel will film a portion of her debut production, Desi Magic, in the UAE. She features in a prominent role.
“Ameesha will be here in
Dubai for a month and will shoot at various locations in the city. We
are hoping to begin shooting after November 10,” said Mini Sarma, of 7
Media, line producer of Desi Magic. A casting call for extras will be
announced closer to the start of filming.
“Ameesha plays a rich girl in Desi Magic,
so her brief was that she wanted a setting that would underline her
glamorous life. Dubai was a perfect choice for such a role. She will be
shooting at malls, hotels,” said Sarma.
Top designer Manish Malhotra will be styling Patel, who made her debut in the 2000 blockbuster Kaho Na ... Pyaar Hai.
Desi Magic also
features actors Zayed Khan, Randhir Kapoor and Lillette Dubey and the
movie will spell a series of firsts. Patel will play a double role for
the first time in her career and DJ Aqueel will turn music composer with
her production.
Patel, who didn’t fully capitalise on her Kaho Na ... Pyaar Hai role — unlike its lead hero Hrithik Roshan — was last seen in action crime thriller Shortcut Romeo and thriller Race 2 in which she played a ditzy assistant to a detective.
Her Dubai plans highlight the city’s burgeoning appeal among Bollywood filmmakers. In addition to the as-yet unreleased Happy New Year, Main Aur Mrs Khanna and Do Not Disturb are some of the films which have featured Dubai.
