Ameesha Patel, who has just recovered from dengue, is mad at Mumbaikars for allowing diseases to thrive
Ameesha Patel is on the road to recovery from a bout of dengue. The actress had been housebound for over a fortnight after a nagging temperature was diagnosed as dengue fever.
The disease is caused due to mosquito bites and is widespread during the monsoon. Having been a victim, she wants Mumbaikars to have civic sense and rid the city of filth and stagnant waters -- the breeding grounds of mosquitoes.
"I have never felt so horrible. You can't do anything but be bedridden," moans the actress.
It began with a fever coupled with severe headaches and nausea. "When my condition didn't improve, I had a blood test done. Initially I thought it would be malaria but later the doc told me I had dengue! My white blood corpuscle levels went alarmingly low."
As a result she had to do blood tests every day. "And every time it went up I felt like celebrating by popping champagne. Jokes apart, I could not even eat anything! Nor could I read or watch TV. It was just endless days of popping pills."
Ameesha adds, "It was a horrible experience and I don't want anyone to be in it."
As dengue fever continues to spread in Mumbai, she wishes Mumbaikars would keep the city clean. "It is so sad that we still have to face a mosquito menace. Mumbaikars have no civic sense. Whenever I see anyone littering, I make a noise about it and tell them to stop. If everyone took it upon themselves to not throw garbage around, it will make a big difference."
The actress also wants the authorities concerned to attend to the sewage and clear stagnant pools of water as soon as possible. "This leads to a mosquito menace in the city causing illnesses. If we all pitch in, our city can be better. Ask me, I suffered because of it. Who would know it better? Let's all make a concerted effort to keep our city clean."

News of actor Sanjay Dutt’s wife Maanayata being pregnant has got the entire family and close friends celebrating. One person who’s particularly excited is Maanayata’s best friend, actress Ameesha Patel.
Speaking to HT City, Patel, who posted a picture of herself with a visibly pregnant Maanayata on Twitter on Saturday, reveals the mood in the Dutt household. “Yesterday, we celebrated news of the baby with a party at the Dutts’ house. Since Maanayata feels nauseous, we can’t go out. So, a few close friends got together and we cut a cake,” Patel says. While Patel adds Maanayata looks like a “blushing bride” these days, Sanjay, 50, is busy playing the concerned father: “Sanjay is particular about her diet and medication. He gets worried if she has any pain.”
The mommy-to-be, meanwhile, is busy tackling another problem. “She tells me that she’s bored of home food and keeps craving for specific foods that I send her. I also sent her a pink teddy bear recently… she should get used to toys in the house.”
With the good news expected to arrive by year-end, preparations are already on. “Maanayata and I plan to go to Dubai and Hong Kong to shop for the baby whenever the doctor allows. She’s been wanting a child for a really long time… it’ll complete their family.”

Fashion her way

Amisha NEWS
No matter what brand she sports, no matter what designer outfit she flaunts, no matter how she does her hair, what accessory she carries, Amisha Patel's design sense never seems to go down well with the fashion critics. However, this does not deter this gossamer skin actor to wear her heart on her dresses.
"Fashion means different things to different people. What is stylish to you could be absolutely absurd to me and vice versa. Apart from this, each one of us has a different body type and shape, which cannot be ignored," says Amisha, another celebrity entrant at the Jack and Jones store.
So, how does this Kaho Na Pyaar tag lady define fashion? "Something that I am comfortable in. I like brands but this does not mean I follow them outlandishly." She adds, "I am more of an accessory person. Bags are my first love, and I have loads of them in all sizes and shapes. I also look at denims as a good investment. Team it up with casual tee or anything formal as per the occasion."
From fashion to films, why are we not seeing a lot of Amisha Patel? She smiles, "I have always done films people stopped me from doing. I was asked why was I doing Honeymoon Travels, Humraaz or for that matter Gadar. I went ahead and did what I felt was right," offers Amisha who simply adores the cool, peppy and affordable Jack and Jones.
The lady wants to add that she is not part of the rat race in Bollywood. "I work because it gives me satisfaction. Despite the huge budgets involved, the movies still lack a quality projection of roles," she says while sharing the names of her upcoming projects, Run Bhola Run with Govinda and Chatur Singh.
Before she signs off one last query - rumours and how she deals with what is written on her. "I don't care. I have consciously detached myself from what people write about me. I read newspapers though. I don't want people to think actors know nothing," she smiles.

Sporting a well-chiseled face and a confident body language was actor Amisha Patel in City on Saturday. She donned the hat of a fashion stylist and transformed quite a few bland city boys into cool fashionable men at Jack and Jones in Sector 17.
Dressed in a navy blue striped top and cigarette jeans, Ameesha is petite and radiant. “I love to dress up well; one is best expressed that ways,” says she.
We haven’t seen Amisha for a while now but she is ready with some films. “I was busy with Run Bhola Run with Tusshar Kapoor and Govinda, and Sanjay Dutt-starrer Chatur Singh 2 Star that is the Indianised version of Pink Panther 2,” she says.
Also, Ameesha is game for TV now. “I’d love to be part of a dance reality show where I can encourage children to learn Indian classical dances as Bharatnatyam, Kathak and Odissi vis-à-vis the Bollywood crap that they do.”
For starters, our girl is a trained classical dancer and loves reading. “I read a lot – right from R.K. Narayan to P.G. Wodehouse – and love watching Sex and the City and channels like National Geographic and Discovery.”
A gold medalist in Economics, Amisha has business plans floating. “I am finalizing few ideas and will definitely put my education to some practical use.”
